If time allows and Burning Man is a philosophy and theme you subscribe to, try South Africa’s Afrikaburn experience, joining a lucky few ‘burners’ in the middle of nowhere, or rather in the Tankwa Karoo a few hours north of Cape Town, for an immersive experience that take you back to your roots.
AfrikaBurn is a community of participants who come together to create art, burning structures, costume, performance, theme camps, music, mutant vehicles and much, much more.
The Lighthouse Festival is a one-day open-air festival with beautiful views towards the historic Slangkop lighthouse as well as the never-ending surrounding sea. There are also satellite events in and around cape town over the three day period to further expand the experience.
For something more intimate, the Wolfkop Weekender festival is a gathering of like-minded people and music event that takes place deep within the Citrusdal Valley, past the orange groves and down near the river. The weekend seeks to combine the essence of a camping getaway with a grass-roots festival experience, featuring a curated music selection and wholesome food traders.
Another of our favourites, the Littlegig festival is a 24-hour showcase of musicians, DJ's, chefs, winemakers, artists, designers, speakers and performers that takes place in a forest 40 minutes outside Cape Town each February.
