Meet Brian Adams, who has been self-employed and trading music at markets since 1990.

At the age of 25, Brian started out at the Green Market Square in the CBD, when the market there was an amazing cultural mix, selling music themed T-shirts and Vinyl. In 1992 he was bold enough to take a trip on his own with limited funds to the UK, Holland and Denmark.

Born and bred on the Cape Flats in Bonteheuwel, a township opposite Langa, this opened the world to him and it was in Denmark that he attended the famous Roskilde Music Festival and watched Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and more. He has since been back to that Festival in 1995 and 2001. He has also attended "Record Fairs for Vinyl Enthusiast & Collectors" in the UK.

Music has been his most intimate passion and his vinyl addiction started at the age of 16 as he frequented house parties and clubs on the Cape Flats in the 80's. It was the most exciting and amazing time for him and his passion started there. It is still the same today at the age of 51, and he still gets a thrill from playing his extensive vinyl collection, which consists of mainly early blues.

These days he can be found at the Hout Bay market on weekend where he plays and sells vinyl and his brand of t-shirt merchandise with their strong local theme and trendy edge.

Time with him will not only introduce you to his personal passion for music and the path he’s walked, but also to the musical evolution in Cape Town.
