OUR COTTAGE STORYTELLERS

JAMMING WITH JADE

An advocate for local flavours and ingredients, Chef Jade De Waal is no ordinary food lover.  Remembered by many as the quirkiest and most charming contestant on the first SA MasterChef, Jade has gone on to have an impressive impact on the South African foodie scene, warming the hearts of all she meets. Her hosted ‘Food Jams’, an initiative by Jade and a social celebration of the love of food, are interactive, fun and designed to bring strangers and friends together over the cooking and eating of delicious meals. Growing up in a family that comes to life over food has afforded Jade an intricate understanding of the role that it plays in bringing people together, and a night with Jade is definitely one to remember.

JUSTIN BONELLO

One of Justin Bonello’s multiple talents is inspiring people to embrace a love of food – the South African way. A filmmaker, chef, urban farmer, entrepreneur and television personality, he is best known for starring in his own food and travel show, Cooked. Justin has published 7 recipe books and is currently working on his next one. Having won multiple awards for his reality television series, his focus is now on finding ways to reduce his footprint on the planet and influence change in how city dwellers live in urban environments. In his spare time, you’ll find him creating magic at the braai, or in the kitchen fearlessly experimenting with flavours and ingredients. The sun, the open road and the smoky aromas of a steak cooking nearby – are Justin’s favourite memory makers.

SLIPPERY SPOON

Johnny Hamman and Marius Uys met in 2014 on the set of Kokkedoor, a popular South African reality cooking series. That started their dream of forming  Slippery Spoon Kitchen as a way of bringing their signature menus and unique food experiences to a discerning culinary audience. Their love of food and travel keeps them on top of international cooking trends and inspires their craft. Johnny and Marius’ knives are always sharpened, their fridges are stocked and they can’t wait to create a spectacular menu for Travel Designer’s next event. These are colourful, creative characters with a huge passion for dinner parties, food and people.
